Legacy Strategies Presents £1,250 to Lennox Children's Cancer Fund, Funding a Family Getaway
28/08/26
We recently visited the lovely team at Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund‘s offices in Basildon to present them with a £1,250 cheque, as part of our 10 Years of Legacy Strategies Social Value commitment. The money has already been put to a very heartwarming use, funding a holiday and spending money for a family enjoying a getaway together during their child’s cancer treatment.
Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund has supported children with cancer and their families for almost 35 years, offering emotional support, financial grants and free respite breaks, including stays at its two holiday homes in the UK. Its support runs from the point of diagnosis, through treatment and into the “new normal” that follows once formal medical support ends, a stage many families find just as difficult to navigate.
A getaway like this means more than a few days away. For a family living around hospital appointments and treatment schedules, the chance to relax together, with nothing to manage but each other, is the kind of support that rarely makes headlines but makes the world of difference.
“We are incredibly grateful to Legacy Strategies for their generous donation, which gave a local family the opportunity to enjoy a respite break, with spending money to make it extra special. Since their child’s cancer diagnosis, opportunities to step away from hospital appointments, treatment and the pressures that come with childhood cancer had been incredibly rare. This break gave them the chance to reconnect, make precious memories and simply enjoy being a family again.
When a business chooses to support Lennox, it means so much to us. It shows they believe in the work we do and, more importantly, helps us make a very real difference to families facing childhood cancer.”
Lindsey Bidwell
Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund
Our founder, Sharron Clow, said “It was a privilege to spend time with the Lennox team and hear more about the difference they make to families across Essex and beyond every day. We are so proud to have helped fund a getaway that gave one family some much-needed time together and we’d encourage other local businesses to find out more about the work Lennox does and the incredible impact they have.”

Our Visit to Alex Gulland, Our Latest Community Champion
24/08/26
We recently visited Alex Gulland at Silverbirch Animal Therapy Farm in Leigh-on-Sea to present her with a £500 grant as part of our Community Champion programme and the whole team came away moved by what she’s built there.
Alex worked as Creative Partner in the media industry and is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, but an interest in therapy stayed with her throughout that career and over time, and after completing numerous training courses, that interest became a genuine change of direction and her love of horses became part of the work itself. She’s now a qualified Person-Centred Mental Health Counsellor, registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and Accredited Equine Therapist. She set up Contented People in 2019, and in 2024 joined forces with Silverbirch Animal Therapy Farm, running therapeutic sessions that bring those two things together: horses, and the people who need them.
The facilities at Silverbirch are excellent and it shows in the number of people who pass through them. Alex works with neurodiverse young people and adults, many referred through organisations like CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) and Red Balloon, helping them build confidence, communication and emotional wellbeing through their connection with horses. So many children and adults have benefited from the time and space she gives them there.
“It means so much to be recognised for work that often happens quietly, away from the spotlight. This grant will go directly towards maintaining our outdoor therapy room and supporting my ongoing training, both of which are essential to giving young people a safe, consistent space to feel seen and connected, often through the simple presence of a horse.” – Alex Gulland
The £500 grant, awarded through our Community Grant Programme as part of our 10 Years of Legacy campaign, will go towards maintaining Silverbirch’s outdoor therapy room and supporting Alex’s continued professional training.
“Alex’s work resonated with us immediately, particularly as several of us have owned horses for many years and have seen first-hand the connection between horses and people. We’re proud to support the impact she’s making in the community.” Sharron Clow – Legacy Strategies
It was a genuine pleasure to spend the afternoon at Silverbirch Animal Therapy Farm and see that work in action.
